In 1988, May 7th was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world.
AHA Big Brew is a celebration of National Homebrew Day (May 7). Each year homebrewers around the world invite family and friends to their brewing site on the first Saturday in May to celebrate the holiday. Everyone is encouraged to help out with the brew, enjoy the fun and join in on a world-wide toast at noon CDT
This year we will be having two events. Both starting at 9 am. BARTS in Bay City and Redwood Lodge in Flint Township.
Demonstrations of all levels of brewing will going on throughout the day. All are welcome.
Results for the 2012 Homebrew @ the W.E.B. will be posted as soon as we can. I will be working on it this afternoon and will wrap it all up as quickly as I can thank you for your patience.
We recieved a grand total 1034 entries from 235 brewers this year! That is 100+ more then last year! 924 beers, 70 meads, and 40 ciders. We will be judging all weekend and will wrap up Sunday afternoon. Following Sunday's sessions and a short lunch break for volunteers, we will have our award ceremony around 1pm at Sullivan's Black Forest in Frankenmuth. This will be the only part of the competition open to the public.
Our friend Gordon Strong will be returning to judge this year as well! he will have plenty of copies if his new book," Brewing Better Beer, Master Lessons for Advanced Homebrewers" for sale and will be glad to sign them. I'm sure Palmer would be glad to as well. If you already own their books, bring them and get them signed!
And don't forget to sign up to volunteer!!!
The competition committee has been hard at work with all the planning and logistics of this years event. Again this year there will be a $1000 gift card for Best of Show for beer and a $500 gift card for Best of Show mead/cider. All judges and stewards have chances to win various prizes donated generously by our sponsors, also this year all volunteers are invited Saturday evening to hear our guest speaker John Palmer, author of How to Brew. We are also planning other surprises throughout the weekend. The volunteer registration is now open so be sure to sign up and don't miss out.
